FAQ

FAQ – What do you want to know?

What are your prices?

Prices can be found here: prices

Can I buy a tandem skydiving gift voucher?

Of course, our vouchers are valid for a year. You can buy one online here. After your payment, you’ll receive a printable voucher by email. Otherwise give us a call on +64 7 574 85 33 or send us a mail at bookings@skydivetauranga.com and we’ll work something out.

What are your weight restrictions?

If you’re under 110kg (220lbs), you don’t even need to ask! Just book your skydive and get ready to jump.
If you’re over 110kg, it’s a little more complicated, give us a call and we can talk about it based on your weight and size. There will also be a small surcharge, which goes to the Tandem Instructor for the added stress to their body.
The minimum weight is 30 kg (66lbs), but it is more about being able to fit safely into the harness. If you’re around that weight, give us a call and we can see what we can do.

What if the weather is bad?

We like to think we’re forecasting experts (one of our favourite hobbies is monitoring about 10 different weather websites!), and we’ll schedule you when the weather is good. But we can’t always be right! If the weather doesn’t look to great, we’ll give you a call on the day of your jump and work something out with you to fit your schedule.

What if I want to cancel or reschedule?

All good, but please do it prior to the day before. Otherwise, you will be charged 50% of the price of the jump if you cancel the day before, or full price if you cancel on the day.

Why do you need my card details when booking?

When you book in, we reserve a slot for you in the plane. And unlike the big skydiving center, we only have two slots per hour. So if someone doesn’t show up, we might have turned someone away who could have jumped. We only take your card to make sure you’re serious about jumping when you book.

You can pay by cash or through another card on the day. Your card will only be charged if you don’t show up.

What's the minimum age limit?

In New Zealand, there is no age restriction, but we’ve set our own limit at 7 years old. We want it to be the child’s own decision to jump! The child will also need to meet our weight restriction (30kg) and fit safely into the harness.
If your child is under the age of 12, please bring them to the dropzone to meet the staff, discover the experience and be fitted in a harness. If you’re under 18, we will need a letter of consent from your parents or guardian.

How long will my skydive take?

The whole experience takes between 1h30 to 2h. We try our best to run on time but sometimes we can be a little late due to weather or traffic on the airport. If you are restricted on time, please mention it when you book so we can make sure it fits into your schedule!

Should I eat before I jump?

Just eat normally, skydiving shouldn’t make you feel sick… But maybe don’t go for the full degustation menu at your local, so you’re not bloated!

What do I need to bring?

Not much! Just bring your smile and comfy clothes, and shoes that won’t fall off. Trust us, finding a lost shoe in freefall is quite the challenge! In the colder months, we can give you a jumpsuit and gloves. In the warmer months, you are more than welcome to jump in your own clothes! Otherwise, we’ve got all the equipment you’ll need, no need to bring your own parachute!

Can I wear glasses/contacts?

Yes, no problem! We advise wearing contacts if you can, but if you wear glasses, we have special goggles that will fit over them.

How far are you from the cruise ships?

The airport is a 5 to 10 minute drive from where the cruise ship dock. If you let us know you’re coming from the cruise, we’ll make sure you’re back on time, so you don’t miss your boat!

Can we all jump at the same time?

We’ve got a small plane that can take 2 tandems at a time. That puts some restrictions on how many can jump at the same time, but we can guarantee you’ll sit next to each other in the plane and have a more personal experience!

Can I take my camera in the plane with me and during my skydive?

Under New Zealand aviation rules, you can’t take your camera during your skydive. And we agree with them! Cameras can come out and fall or break, which could hit you or your instructor or fall on some unlucky person’s house! You’re also not allowed to take it in the plane as we will need you focused on what we’re telling you.

Can I jump barefoot?

We know New Zealand is the land of barefoot, but for safety reasons everyone must be wearing closed in footwear.

Can I go in the plane if I am not jumping?

Under New Zealand aviation rules, everyone in the plane must carry a parachute and know how to use it! So if you’re not planning on jumping out, you won’t be able to come up. Sorry!

Can you teach me to skydive solo and do you allow solo jumpers?

Sorry, not at the moment. Our landing area is small and there are plenty of rules with the airport so we can co-exist with Air New Zealand, which aren’t solo jumpers friendly. Your best bet for this is Taupo or Auckland.

What views will I see?

We’ve got some of the most unique views in New Zealand with a breathtaking mix of golden sand beaches, waterways, cities, mountains and volcanoes. We’ve also got views of the Coromandel, White Island, Rotorua, Mount Ruapehu, and Mount Taranaki.

What type of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa and Mastercard, Eftpos, cash, Alipay and WeChat.

Do you do corporate events?

Yes we do! We even have an outdoor area with BBQ. Give us a call on +64 7 574 85 33 to work out the details.

Can I have a discount?

If you think you deserve a discount, like if you’re a big group wanting to jump, send us a mail. Sorry, we’re stoked it’s your birthday, but sadly that doesn’t qualify you for a discount. You wouldn’t believe how many people skydive on their birthday!

I still have more questions!

Don’t worry, we have more answers! Give us a call on +64 7 574 85 33 or send us a mail at bookings@skydivetauranga.com
